How the Internet Changed My Life

How the Internet Changed My Life

The internet has changed my life in more than one way, from blogging to education. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am now without access to the internet.

I love the idea of giving all my time to the internet and my computer. I have learned how to find everything by using the internet,  and learned so much from it. If I don’t know how to make something I search for a “how-to”, you can also find very helpful step by step videos on YouTube. Now I’m doing all my best to go further in my life, and following my dream.

I am going to school for Computer Programming, with addition to college courses I have also found very helpful online tutorials and free courses. Though I have been on the fence about my major, with the internet there are so many possibilities and sometimes you can get confused about what you want to do. I guess you can see that as a negative aspect, there is just too much information to effectively stick to one path.

The internet is like a tree for information, you start with a seed of an idea and from that seed it starts to grow and creates roots and branches. Leaves start to grow from those branches, growing bigger every day. Then you come across another tree that seems to be getting a bit more sunlight than you and you un-root yourself to be in the sun. You keep doing this again and again until you realize that the original spot you were rooted fits you just the right way.

This is very similar to how it feels when you’re choosing a major. Another bad aspect is procrastination, there are so many other things to do on the internet it distracts your from your education.

In terms of my education, the internet has paved the way for me to do things in my own way, at my own pace. There are so many different opportunities and many different pathways you can take, all with the help of the internet. Yes, it can get very confusing because the internet has endless search potential, but I believe that is the point. You can virtually find just about anything if you look in the right places.

When you’re researching a topic for a particular class, for example, 9 out of 10 times Google is the first place you head to. At the same time that information you’re researching can be false and we can’t forget about plagiarizing, that’s a big un-arguable offense often looked down upon.

The internet is the best tool that has been put in my possession. It has its downsides, but at the same time it gives you everything you need. I will continue to use it to help better myself and my life in hopes of one day accomplishing my goals and my dream. When I do, I will be able to say I did it all with the help of the internet because without it I wouldn’t have found my passion, my path, my dream.
